Arthritis
Arthritis, or joint pain or joint disease, is the leading cause of disability in America. More than 50 million adults and 300,000 children are suffering from some type of arthritis. Common symptoms include swelling, pain, stiffness, and decreased range of motion. Severe arthritis can result in chronic pain, inability to perform normal day-to-day activities, and has the potential to cause permanent joint damage.
To determine whether or not you may be suffering from arthritis or to determine the severity, your medical professional will perform blood tests and conduct an imaging scan (ie: x-ray, CAT scan or MRI). Eating healthy, staying active, and understanding your type of arthritis and treatment options are crucial to decreasing your discomfort and paving the way for an enjoyable, happy life.
Auto Injuries
Even a “minor” crash can result in serious injuries like ligament sprains. This can lead to chronic pain and disability if not treated properly. In fact, research shows that early treatment is the best way to prevent long-term symptoms. Chiropractic adjustments are effective because they help restore the healthy, normal function of your nervous system without the use of drugs or surgery.
Auto accidents are a common occurrence and can cause various injuries. While many people may seek medical treatment at a hospital, often, chiropractic care is overlooked. Chiropractic care can be an effective treatment for auto accident injuries and help you get back to your regular routine faster. If you’ve sustained an auto accident injury, it’s crucial to consult with a chiropractor to determine the best course of treatment.
At Buenaventura Lakes Chiropractic in Kissimmee, we provide treatment for auto accident injuries. Dr. Andrés is experienced in treating various injuries and conditions, including shoulder pain, whiplash, and more. Let’s look at some of the common injuries that we can address.
Whiplash
This is one of the most common injuries associated with car accidents. Whiplash occurs when your head is suddenly and forcefully jerked forward or backward, causing your neck muscles and ligaments to stretch and tear. Symptoms of whiplash can include neck pain, stiffness, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue. Visit our chiropractor if you are experiencing any of these symptoms following an accident.
Shoulder Injury
The impact of a car accident can also cause a shoulder injury. This can include damage to the muscles and tendons that surround your shoulder and the shoulder joint itself. Some symptoms of shoulder injuries include pain in the shoulder and upper arm, limited range of motion, swelling, and stiffness. If you cannot move your arm or are experiencing a lot of pain, it’s vital to see a chiropractor right away.
Herniated Discs
The force of a car accident can also cause a herniated disc. This occurs when the gel-like center of a disc bulges through the wall of its surrounding material. This can cause nerve compression and severe pain in the neck or lower back. If you are experiencing pain, numbness, or tingling in your neck, back, or extremities, it’s imperative to get treatment from a chiropractor.
Headaches and Concussions
Even though you may not have suffered a direct head injury during an auto accident, sudden jerking motions can cause headaches and possible concussions. If you hit your head on the steering wheel or window, this can also happen. If you are experiencing headaches, dizziness, and loss of consciousness following an accident, it is crucial to consult with a chiropractor right away.
Chiropractic Care for Auto Accident Injuries
When you visit our chiropractor, you can expect a thorough examination to determine the source and severity of your pain. Once the underlying cause of your pain is determined, a customized treatment plan will be created to address your specific needs. Some of the chiropractic treatments that may be used to treat your auto accident injuries include adjustments, massage therapy, spinal decompression, ice/heat therapies, and more.
Headaches After a Car Accident
Experiencing headaches after a car accident isn’t uncommon. While back and neck injuries are common after an auto accident, head pain accompanied by symptoms like dizziness and vision changes is also common. If you experience headaches after an auto accident, it’s vital to see a medical professional for a proper assessment and treatment plan. Are you struggling with an annoying headache after a car accident in Kissimmee, FL? Please book an appointment with Buenaventura Lakes Chiropractic for pain relief.
Why Headaches Occur Due to Auto Accidents
You may have a headache after a car accident when your head bumps into the steering wheel, windshield, or other objects in the vehicle. During an accident, the car abruptly comes to a halt, which causes a sudden change of direction in your body, causing your head to hit several objects in the body.
When you have a blow to your head in a car accident, you may experience headaches, dizziness, memory issues, and other symptoms. The other reasons you may have headaches after a car accident include:
- Whiplash: The sudden change in the direction of your body causes your head to snap back and forth, damaging the soft tissues in the neck. This kind of injury is called whiplash and has symptoms like dizziness, neck pain, stiffness, and headaches.
- Concussion: A violent blow to the head causes your brain to shake, resulting in headaches, memory loss, visual changes, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
- Spasm headaches: When the muscles in the upper back, neck, or head are injured, you may experience headaches, tenderness, and limited mobility.
- Pinched nerves: During an accident, the impact may cause disc herniation which can compress the nerve roots in the upper cervical (neck), causing pain, tenderness, tingling, and numbness.
Generally, we advise patients to see a chiropractor immediately after an accident, even with no visible injury or pain. Auto injuries like headaches don’t exhibit symptoms right away and can disrupt your everyday life when you don’t seek treatment early on.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help
After diagnosing the root cause of your headache, we administer chiropractic treatment to reduce pain, improve mobility, and alleviate inflammation. We don’t treat your headaches with medication or surgery. Here are some of the natural treatments we use to treat headaches:
- Spinal manipulation aligns your spinal joints, triggering your body’s self-healing mechanism to reduce headaches
- Lifestyle and nutritional counseling
- Neck stretching exercises

Rotator cuff injuries occur in the muscles and tendons. This mostly happens in high-impact accidents. Rotator cuff injuries cause dull aches in the shoulder, which worsen with time.
Fractures
Fractures occur when a bone in the shoulder breaks, either partially or entirely. Fractures cause severe pain and greatly impair mobility.
Dislocation
Shoulder dislocation occurs when the shoulder blade shifts from the socket. In severe cases, the shoulder blade can get ejected from the socket, a condition referred to as shoulder separation.
Soft Tissue Injuries
Soft tissue injuries are also common, but not as bone injuries. These injuries occur when a blunt force is applied to the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. During a car accident, these injuries happen when the tissue slam against hard surfaces.
Symptoms of Shoulder Injury after an Auto Accident
Some of the common symptoms of a shoulder injury after an auto accident include:
- Numbness and tingling around the shoulder
- Muscle cramps
- Swelling and stiffness
- Inability to move
- Neck and upper back pain
- Popping or cracking sound when moving
When to Seek Treatment

Whiplash
Whiplash is a soft tissue injury to the neck that can cause neck pain, neck stiffness, headaches, jaw pain, dizziness, and even memory loss. It can develop over a period of weeks to months after a collision. Although you may seem fine after an auto accident, it’s essential to receive a professional assessment. If you are suffering from whiplash, our chiropractor at Buenaventura Lakes Chiropractic can create a personalized treatment plan to naturally alleviate your symptoms and prevent them from reoccurring.
What Is Whiplash?
Whiplash occurs when a collision causes the neck to jolt back and forth. Car accidents are the most common cause of whiplash. In most cases, whiplash occurs when you are rear-ended. Whiplash is also a common injury in contact sports like football. This condition causes spinal misalignments and tiny tears in the neck muscles that are often unnoticeable at first. If left untreated, whiplash can lead to severe pain and discomfort that can seriously impact your life.
Why Choose Chiropractic Care?
It’s only natural to try to deal with chronic pain by taking pain relievers. They can give you a quick fix that helps you get on with your day. However, medications only help to temporarily alleviate the symptoms of whiplash. Our chiropractic care works to diagnose the root cause of your condition so we can help you achieve long-lasting relief.
How Our Chiropractor Can Help
Our chiropractor will examine your medical history and current health to diagnose the severity of your whiplash. We may require imaging tests like x-rays or CT scans for a thorough assessment. Once we have a clear understanding of your condition, our chiropractor will provide a personalized treatment plan. This plan is composed of various non-invasive techniques that work to alleviate pain and improve the strength and flexibility of your neck.
Our chiropractor uses spinal adjustments to realign the cervical spine and improve blood and oxygen flow to the affected area. We also provide E-stim and trigger point therapy to help alleviate pain and muscle tension during the treatment process. In addition, our stretching and strengthening exercises reduce stiffness and improve the neck’s range of motion.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
CTS is a problem of the median nerve which runs from the forearm into the hand. When there is excessive pressure in the wrist, it causes swelling of the median nerve. This small area called the carpal tunnel is a narrow tunnel at the wrist made up of bones, soft tissues, nerves, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. When the median nerve which runs through this tunnel gets compressed it causes pain, weakness, numbness or tingling in the hand and wrist which radiates into the forearm. The carpal tunnel is the most common area that gets compressed in both the hands and feet.
CTS should be diagnosed and treated early. During your consultation, you will receive a standard physical examination of the hands, arms, shoulders and neck to help determine if your symptoms are related to daily activities or to an underlying disorder. Our highly skilled chiropractor will also utilize other orthopedic tests to try to produce the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Laboratory tests and x-rays can reveal diabetes, arthritis, fractures, and other common causes of wrist and hand pain.
Degenerative Disc Disease
Degenerative disc disease is when natural changes in the discs of your spine cause pain. The discs between vertebrae act as shock absorbers for your spine, and as you age, they begin to lose flexibility. While this is a normal part of aging, it should not cause pain. If you experience pain due to this, it is classified as degenerative disc disease.
Each disc is composed of a sturdy outer wall and a soft, gel-like inner core. When we are born, these discs are primarily composed of water, but as age advances, the discs lose some of this water content and begin to get thinner. As you might imagine, this means each disc doesn’t absorb the shocks of everyday life as well.
Headaches/ Migraines
Nine out of ten Americans say that they suffer from headaches. Some of these people experience headaches frequently. Some experience constant headaches that are very painful. These can even make a person nauseous. Ninety-five percent of headaches are tension, migraine, or cluster headaches. These types of headaches are not caused from a disease, but from something in your body that is not sitting correctly.
Knee Pain
Knee pain is increasingly becoming a more common problem in society. It is a complaint we see frequently. The most common complaint associated with knee pain is considered the normal “wear and tear.” Another ailment that affects the knee is osteoarthritis. The symptoms and progression of osteoarthritis and knee pain can be reduced through our individualized approach to chiropractic care.
Neck Pain
Why is your neck aching constantly, regardless of how much you’re stretching? Maybe you’re experiencing acute pinching or stabbing pain when you move your neck a certain way. Does the pain always come back or never go away, even with the use of anti-inflammatories or herbal supplements?
If you fall into any of these situations, you should schedule a chiropractic appointment at Buenaventura Lakes Chiropractic in Kissimmee, FL. Our chiropractor will assess your musculoskeletal system to determine the root cause of your neck pain before creating a chiropractic care plan to address it. Regular chiropractic care will relieve your neck pain, restore your mobility, and improve your body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Neck Pain Causes
Our chiropractor will help determine the causes of the pain you’re experiencing to ultimately reduce inflammation and prevent further damage already experienced. Potential causes of neck pain include:
- Injury from a fall, car collision, participation in sports, or other accident.
- Lifting and moving heavy objects, especially over the head.
- Poor posture, especially if you work a desk job for prolonged hours.
- Reoccurring injuries in the same location, possibly due to neglect or poor physical therapy.
- A herniated disc or another injury to the neck causes nerve pain, which can radiate down through your arm to the tips of your fingers.
Your chiropractor will do an examination, along with considering your story and any pre-existing conditions, to implement the best treatment options for your situation.
Neck Pain Treatment
Your chiropractic care plan will likely include a combination of the following:
- Chiropractic Adjustments: Our chiropractor will perform targeted adjustments to restore your body’s natural alignment. This will relieve pressure on strained joints and ligaments while improving your body’s general ability to function.
- Nutritional Advice: Nutrition is a key component of pain recovery, with a focus on naturally anti-inflammatory foods while avoiding other foods that may promote inflammation and pain.
- Strengthening Exercises and Targeted Stretching: Stretching and strengthening exercises will enhance the benefits of chiropractic care and prevent your pain from returning in the future.
- Manual Therapy: Manual therapy can include targeted muscle treatment through the use of electrical stimulation (E-STIM), massages, and trigger point treatment or a combination of all three. These treatments will help with short-term pain relief while promoting healing and long-term recovery.

Pinched Nerve
A pinched nerve can happen in a variety of places throughout the body with some of the most common being the lower spine, wrists, neck, and legs. A pinched nerve occurs when the muscles or tendons around the nerve are inflamed, putting pressure on the nerve and either causing pain or even numbness throughout the extremities related or attached to this affected nerve.
Your pinched nerve may be caused by different physical conditions such as carpal tunnel or a herniated disc. Though pinched nerves can be painful, the majority of patients find that their pinched nerve(s) goes away on its own.
If the pinched nerve does not resolve itself and you have persistent pain that lasts for more than a few days, you should seek medical attention by scheduling an appointment at Buenaventura Lakes Chiropractic with our chiropractor. This is especially true if you’ve tried at-home treatments but feel like your pain is worsening as time progresses. With pinched nerves, it’s important to seek medical attention in order to identify the underlying cause of the pinched nerve to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Sciatica
Sciatica is characterized by pain in the lower back that radiates down one or both legs. The pain is described as dull, achy, sharp, like “pins and needles” or similar to electric shocks. - Have had a previous injury
Common Sports Injuries and How to Treat Them:
Here are three common athletic-related injuries and tips for treating them.
- Pulled Muscles
Muscle strain or pulled muscle occurs when a muscle is stretched beyond its limits. This can happen when the body makes a sudden movement, especially when fatigued. This type of injury is more common in muscles around the groin, hamstrings, and calves.
For minor injuries, Rest Ice Compress and Elevate (RICE) can treat pulled muscles. However, if the injury is severe, you can contact our chiropractors who can pinpoint the injured muscle and perform therapeutic massages to increase mobility and strengthen the muscle.
- Knee Injuries
The most common knee injury is Patellofemoral Syndrome, commonly referred to as “runners’ knee.” This type of injury affects athletes and people whose sport involves running. It is caused by the repetitive overuse of the tendon below the kneecap, resulting in inflammation and irritation. Our chiropractors may recommend stretching exercises to help reduce pain and improve mobility and strength.
- Shoulder Injuries
Shoulder injuries are most common in sports such as football, baseball, rugby, and basketball. The most common shoulder injury is rotator cuff tendinitis, which is often characterized by swollen tendons and pain in the outer part of your upper arm.
If you experience any shoulder injury, you must see your chiropractor immediately to diagnose the cause of your pain. Shoulder pain can be caused by other things such as bad sleeping posture, falls, or accidents. Your chiropractor will determine whether the pain is an injury from another part of your body and recommend a proper treatment plan.

TMJ
TMJ is an abbreviation for the temporomandibular joint which connects the mandibular, or your lower jaw, to the temporal bones of the skull. The TMJ is one of the more unique joints within your body as it allows you to move your jaw forward, backward, and side to side so that you can chew, talk, sing, yawn, and more. This joint can be found just in front of your ears on both sides of your head.
Any problem with the muscles, ligaments, discs, bones, or the joint itself are known as temporomandibular disorders or TMD and refers to the actual disorder, where the jaw joint is misaligned and causing problems such as pain, inflammation, and inability to move or operate the jaw. However, these problems or conditions are often incorrectly called by the joint name of TMJ instead.
Vertigo
Vertigo is the feeling that you are moving when you’re not. This sensation can be triggered by movements such as turning your head too quickly or looking down from a great distance, but it is ultimately caused by problems in the inner ear, brain, or brainstem. There are two different forms of vertigo with each stemming from various medical issues: peripheral vertigo and central vertigo.
Peripheral vertigo results in a problem with your inner ear and thus your balance, while central vertigo occurs when your brain or brainstem are suffering from a disease originating from your central nervous system (CNS). Peripheral vertigo is typically more severe, and central vertigo is more gradual in its onset. Regardless of the type of dizziness you are experiencing, more than likely, your quality of life is suffering because of it.
Whiplash
According to the American Chiropractic Association, one of the most common causes of neck pain is whiplash resulting from a car accident. A sudden forced movement of the head or neck in any direction and the resulting “rebound” in the opposite direction is known as whiplash. The sudden “whipping” motion injures the surrounding and supporting tissues of the neck and head. Muscles react by tightening and contracting, creating muscle fatigue, which can result in pain and stiffness. Severe whiplash can also be associated with injury to the intervertebral joints, discs, ligaments, muscles, and nerve roots.
Work Injuries
Workplace injuries don’t only occur during traumatic slips and falls at work but are more often than not, the result of repetitive movements, and caused by doing the physical demands required of your job over an extended period of time. These types of workplace injuries are all too common in today’s workforce and are best identified by their symptoms.
- Lower back pain
- Shoulder pain
- Carpal tunnel and hand pain
- Disc injuries
- Sciatica (pain caused by the sciatic nerve in your lower back and legs)
- Joint pain
Being examined by a chiropractor is often the first step in identifying and treating a workplace injury through non-invasive care which is why Buenaventura Lakes Chiropractic conducts thorough examinations during his first session with new patients in order to better assess their injury. Since workplace injuries usually develop over time, it’s important to share all the symptoms you may be experiencing so we can identify the root cause.
Lower Back Pain
Low back pain is a common problem that can have a serious negative impact on one’s life. Stiffness, pain, and problems with mobility can prevent you from doing the things you want to do. Chiropractic care offers treatment that is drug-free and non-invasive to help you get back to normal function. At Buenaventura Lakes Clinic in Kissimmee FL, we offer chiropractic care for patients experiencing low back pain.
Causes of Low Back Pain
Strains of the lower back are commonly caused by lifting, bending, and twisting. Aging can cause deterioration of the spinal structures with resulting low back pain. You may have weakness in the abdominal muscles that causes additional stress on structures in the back. Obesity can be a factor in back pain, as well as smoking and excessive drinking. Diseases such as osteoarthritis or cancer can cause lower back problems. Accidents that involve trauma to the back can also cause chronic low back pain.
Low Back Pain Can Affect Your Daily Life
Symptoms of pain, stiffness, and poor range of motion can have a limiting effect on your daily activities. You may not be able to perform work duties. You may have to forego recreational activities because of discomfort and poor function. Even everyday tasks can become difficult and painful when the lower spine is out of alignment and pressing on muscles, tendons, and nerves. Chiropractic care can help to restore normal spinal alignment so you can return to your regular tasks.
Treatment of Low Back Pain
Our chiropractor will carefully evaluate your condition and determine the best chiropractic methods for your needs. Manual adjustment is one of the standard practices of chiropractic care. It helps to re-align spinal structures for improved function. Other methods may also be used, such as stretching, corrective exercises, electrical stimulation, and spinal decompression. Several sessions may be required to provide full relief from your discomfort.

Sport Rehabilitation
Fractures, sprains, strains, and tears are some of the most common consequences of participating in sports activities. Team sports, such as football, require hours of training, which often results in natural wearing and tearing on your body, causing you to train in pain. Unfortunately, a sports injury sustained from falls, tackles, overtraining, or improperly warming up may leave you sitting on the sidelines for extended periods of time while you heal. That’s why at Buenaventura Lakes Chiropractic in Kissimmee, we offer sports rehabilitation and chiropractic care to help you get back in the game. We offer the testing and treatment needed to reduce your recovery time and prevent the risk of re-injuring yourself. Here are a few of the benefits of our chiropractic care for sports rehab.
Quicker Healing
Your body naturally reacts to your injuries with the production of white blood cells, which helps your body fight infection and encourages natural healing. Unfortunately, certain sports injuries can impair blood flow, making it difficult for your white blood cells to get to the affected area. Our chiropractor offers various non-invasive techniques that can improve blood flow and help speed up the healing body’s natural healing process.
Reduces Spasms and Muscle Pain
Recovering from a sports injury is difficult if you have constant muscle spasms or are still in pain several days or even weeks after you got injured. Chiropractic care for sports injuries often includes soft tissue mobilization, electrical stimulation, trigger point therapy, and various other therapies that can help stop muscle spasms and reduce the pain and tightness in your muscles.
Treats the Cause of Your Pain
Rather than temporarily the symptoms associated with your sports injury, our chiropractor works to treat the root cause of your pain or discomfort. Pain is often caused by subluxations or tight muscles that are pressing on nerves. Trigger point therapy, spinal manipulation, spinal decompression, and other chiropractic treatments can help to reduce the pressure on your nerves and spinal discs. If you have a herniated disc, these treatments may help to decrease the bulging. The best benefit of chiropractic care for sports rehabilitation is that you can avoid the need for pain killers or invasive procedures.
